Since 2000, the mold industry has grown at an annual rate of 20%, during the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, production and sales are booming, and the output, quality and level have been further improved, especially the development of automobile manufacturing and IT manufacturing industry, which has promoted the improvement of mold grade, and sophisticated mold manufacturing equipment provides a guarantee for the improvement of mold technology level. Cao Yanan, executive vice president and secretary general of China Mold Industry Association, said that China's mold industry is experiencing a "golden development stage" and will continue to maintain rapid growth in the coming period. 

      In recent years, the adjustment of the product structure of the mold industry has accelerated, and the development speed of the mold with high technical content represented by the large, precise, complex and long-life mold is higher than the overall development speed of the industry, accounting for about 35% of the total number of molds. In 2007, the export of molds increased by 35.73%, the deficit further declined, the structure of import and export molds tended to be reasonable, and domestic molds replaced imported molds into a climate.

       From the perspective of industry structure, the rapid development of private enterprises, the vitality of state-owned enterprises has been enhanced, the number and ability of market-oriented professional mold manufacturers have increased rapidly, the mold agglomeration production park that adapts to the production characteristics of the mold industry has been developed, and the underdeveloped areas of the mold industry such as the central and western regions have made great progress.

      The accuracy of the multi-station progressive die of some mold enterprises has reached 2 microns, and the life span can reach more than 300 million strokes, and the multi-station progressive die of individual enterprises can be used on high-speed punches of 2500 times/minute, with an accuracy of up to 1 micron. It has been able to produce 43-inch large-screen color TV, 65-inch rear projection TV mold, 10-kilogram large-capacity washing machine full set of plastic parts mold, car bumper, overall dashboard and other large plastic molds.

      Precision plastic molds have been able to produce camera and mobile phone plastic parts molds, multi-cavity small module gear molds and 7800-cavity plastic molds with an accuracy of 5 microns. Large-scale precision and complex die-casting molds have been able to produce die-casting molds for escalator integral pedals, die-casting molds for automobile rear axle gearboxes, and casting molds for automobile engine housings.

      The automotive panel mould has been able to produce a full set of exterior panel moulds for mid-range new cars. Radial tire activation molds, aluminum alloy and plastic door and window profile extrusion molds, precision casting or resin rapid prototyping drawing dies have reached a very high level.

       But on the whole, China is still only a mold production country rather than a strong country, products and developed countries still have a gap of 10 years - 15 years, is still mainly in the middle and low grade, the self-matching rate of high-end molds only accounts for about 60%, many high-end precision, complex molds still rely on imports, more than 2 billion US dollars per year in the past three years. The commercialization rate of molds is only about 60%, and the coverage rate of standard parts is only about 50%. The investment in scientific research funds is seriously insufficient, the scientific research strength is weak, and there is no public technical support system conducive to innovation.
